I am slowly reaching the end of my study of the gospel of Mark. What an absolutely beautiful journey. This week has been emotional reading, partly because I have been sick, but mostly because I have been pondering the details of the crucifixion of my Jesus. There was so much lying, bullying, and injustice involved – all the things I hate the most in this life- so my emotions have been all over the board. But then... everything stilled when I read what is, for me, one of the most beautiful verses in the Bible. Jesus has just died and the Word tells us “And the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom.” The significance of this does not escape me. The curtain in the Temple was a long woven purple, scarlet, and blue tapestry that acted as a barrier separating the Holy of Holies from all else.
